DuPont EMS Renewal Committee asks for your ‘Yes’ vote

Fellow DuPont Residents,

If you are part of the 17.62% of DuPont registered voters who have returned your ballot on the Emergency Medical Services levy renewal, thank you!

If you are part of the 82.28% still waiting to cast your ballot, please do so as quickly as possible. All ballots must be postmarked by August 16th or placed in the Pierce County Auditor’s ballot drop box located in Ross Plaza by 8 PM, August 16th.

When casting your vote, please remember that this measure only retains (renews) our current EMS levy, which expires at the end of this year. This is NOT about expanding our current services and is NOT a new tax.

Here is why every vote counts:

We not only need at least 60% of all votes cast to be “yes votes”, we must have at least 589 “yes votes” to validate. As of close of business this Friday, 663 out of 3,763 registered voters have returned their ballot (source: Pierce County Auditor’s Elections website). If 663 ends up being the total number of ballots submitted, we would need at least 89% of those ballots to be “yes votes” to achieve the important 589 number of “yes votes” required to validate. Even if we receive strong support for this levy RENEWAL, that percentage is too high to count on.

On the conservative planning side, if only 60% (minimum percentage required to pass) of the votes cast are “yes votes”; we would need a minimum of 982 votes cast to reach the 589 “yes votes” required to “validate”. I know it sounds complicated, but those are the rules and every vote is important! Please do not assume that your vote is not needed.

Here is how you can help:

  • Ensure that your “Yes vote” is in the mail or in the white drop box located in Ross Plaza.
  • Ask everyone you talk with if they have cast their ballot! If you are talking with a large group or small group, please stress the importance of voting. We need to ensure that we validate!
  • Feel free to share this email as you feel appropriate.

Thanks much for all that you are doing to ensure that we have continued Emergency Medical Services in DuPont.

I don’t think people in DuPont realize how important this is. We are a good 20 minutes from a hospital, unless you are military and can use Madigan. If this city doesn’t have EMS providers, we will only have basic life support. EMS can start treatment with a physician’s orders while in the ambulance. This is really critical if you are experiencing a stroke or heart attack. To Mike Winkler and other committee members, thank you! It would help, though, to explain why EMS is so important and what this community will lose if we don’t pay attention.
