High wind and coastal flood watch issued for Puget Sound region

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a high wind watch for late Sunday night, Dec. 16, through Monday morning, Dec. 17. Affected areas include Seattle, Everett, Bellevue, Tacoma, Olympia, Shelton and Chehalis.

Forecasters are unsure of the exact track of the low pressure system moving onto the Washington coast early Monday morning.  The low pressure system will have a big impact on where high winds develop. Right now, winds between 25 and 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected. Winds this strong can topple trees, bring down power lines and damage some structures.

As this system moves through Monday morning, high tides and big waves could produce tidal overflow and flooding near beaches.
