SHSD awarded energy savings grant

The Steilacoom Historical School District announced last week that it is one of 43 school districts across the state awarded a facility energy project grant for cost saving improvements.

The district will receive nearly $800,000 that will yield energy operations cost savings and meet on-going facility needs. Each and every mainland school building, including district offices, will benefit from these grant dollars.

Projects will include district-wide water conservation, energy-efficient lighting at school buildings (interior and exterior), replacing computer servers,  and the installation of a high-efficiency heat system in the Old Pioneer Middle School.

“I am glad to have additional resources that will reduce energy consumption and update equipment. We are pleased to be able to do this work through outside funding sources,” said SHSD Superintendent Bill Fritz.

The district will begin work on grant projects this summer.
