Steilacoom Student qualifies for State Tournament

Ten year old Steilacoom resident JJ Lemming competed in a regional baseball tournament this summer.

If someone asks him what he did during his summer vacation, JJ Lemming can say that he competed in a baseball championship.

Lemming, who will be in the fifth grade at Saltar’s Point Elementary this year, played in the Regional Pony Mustang Tournament this summer.

Lemming’s team, The Crush, placed fourth in the state championship held in Enumclaw, Wash. on July 23.

“It was pretty neat to be in a tournament that only eight teams in the state earned the right to participate in,” Lemming said.

“Baseball is my favorite sport. I enjoyed playing with kids that had as much dedication that I have and since it is my favorite sport to play, it is always a lot of fun, win or lose.”

Lemming plays first and third base for the team, and also recently began serving as the catcher. Lemming’s mom, Sara, said that her son skipped T-ball, starting in coach pitch baseball when he was five years old.

The Crush is part of the South Sound Baseball All-Stars league.
